FAQs

Which internet service provider (ISP)?

ISPs vary in the bandwidth or speed they provide, and some require use of proprietary software on your computer that has unique email/browser operating procedures.

Sufficient bandwidth or speed is probably the most important consideration. Users with a dial-up (low-speed) service will find that display updates for most features on this site respond with the expected delays. You will see slightly longer delays in displaying the Home page and some posted documents such as the Monthly Newsletter, mainly because they contain images that take longer to download.

Of the higher-speed technologies, cable internet (Cox in our area) is the most common and least expensive. Other options like satellite, DSL, and community wireless are more expensive or currently not available. Qwest cannot say if or when DSL service will be available here. Community wireless service may be an available option in the future; updates will be posted here as they become available.

Some ISPs, such as AOL and MSN, require use of proprietary browser and/or email software, so user operating procedures are different than most others. This is only significant if a user has problems and looks for local help.
